"VU IBS Centre for Studies, Health Promotion and Sport Excellence"

Project Highlights:
Project key objective: to construct a cutting-edge Centre having high-standard facilities to execute university and post-university studies and give students access to modern facilities promoting their healthcare and sports excellence.
Projected construction result: 12.340 m² area covering IBS and neighbouring Vilnius University Sports Centre location. The construction district is referred to as a knowledge economy cluster in Vilnius.
Construction investment: 200 mln. Lt. / 58 billion Euros.
Initiative partners: IBS at Vilnius University and Vilnius University Fitness and Sports Centre
Initiative need assessment: Seeking to create a favourable area for life-long learning with emphasis for university and post-university studies and to provide students with possibilities for physical fitness promotion, healthcare and sports excellence. This development project seeks to develop a mutually beneficial project which solves Vilnius University Fitness and Sports Centre problems and meet the IBS needs for infrastructure and facility development.
• Prior reconstructions: In 2004 IBS moved to new premises by taking 11 billion Lt bank loan. Today the School is highly competitive among higher education service providers. Vilnius University Fitness and Sports Centre was established in 1984 and was not renovated from its establishment therefore has lost its popularity among students due to poor conditions, non-hygienic environment and an urging need for renovation.

• To support the image of Vilnius University as the national university;
• To provide students and academic community with life-long learning possibilities and health promoting environment;
• To improve academic facilities;
• To expand the choice of services for students at Vilnius University;
• To introduce post-university study programmes;
• To provide students with possibilities to promote physical fitness and sport excellence;
• To improve students’ health by physical activity means and support the prevention of mental overload;
• To provide students with possibilities for physically active free time;
• To seek sports excellence and represent Vilnius university and Lithuania in international sport events.
